For more than three decades, Chris O’Keefe has been a steadfast advocate for dairy farmers and rural communities across Victoria’s Western District.
At the 2026 Victorian Farmers Federation Conference in Ballarat, Chris was recognised with one of the VFF’s highest honours, being awarded VFF Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to the federation.
A member of the Warrnambool United Dairyfarmers of Victoria Branch since around 1993, Chris served for many years as Branch Treasurer, providing careful financial stewardship and helping ensure the branch remained strong and well positioned to support its members and local communities.
Known for his integrity, sound judgement and modest nature, Chris was a trusted voice within the branch. Year after year he willingly took on leadership responsibilities, while also representing the region as a VFF UDV Conference delegate, ensuring local dairy farmers had a voice in important industry discussions.
Chris’ contribution extended well beyond balancing the books. His financial expertise and prudent decision-making helped safeguard branch funds, enabling the organisation to later support drought and bushfire relief efforts, as well as numerous local rural causes when communities needed it most.
Fellow members describe Chris as someone who gives his time, knowledge and experience generously. Whether contributing to meetings, sharing advice or supporting fellow farmers, he consistently put the interests of the dairy industry and rural Victoria first.
While never one to seek recognition, Chris’ dedication has left a lasting legacy on the Warrnambool branch, the dairy industry and the broader VFF community.
His Life Membership is a fitting tribute to a lifetime of service and an acknowledgement of the significant contribution he has made to Victorian agriculture and the farmers it represents.
A fantastic achievement Chris for a lifetime of dedication to the Victorian dairy industry.
