GRANT UPDATE
Over 100 grants have been paid out to farmers in Gippsland to support fencing and fire recovery over the past two weeks.
Due to the ongoing interest, GERF and the VFF have decided to extend the grant by two weeks – so applications which were due to close on Monday 25 May will now be extended until 5pm on Monday 8 June unless funding is committed prior to this date.
Successful applicants will be granted an additional two months – to 31 August - in which to expend the funds, recognising the challenges that some are facing in sourcing fencing supplies.

Background

The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) is a charitable fund to provide emergency relief to Gippslanders who suffer loss to their property as a result of a bushfire, flood or storm event.

The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund is providing $1,400,000 to the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) to distribute to East Gippsland farmers affected by the recent fires. This funding will be available through grants principally to support re-fencing.

The VFF is accepting applications for grants of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) from Gippsland farmers whose property has been affected in the recent fires, to support the replacement of fencing. An allowance may also be available for those farmers in urgent need of fodder for the coming season.

Applications will open on Monday, 11 May 2020 and has now been extended to 5pm on Monday, 8 June unless the funds are committed prior to this date. Applications will be assessed on receipt and grants will be awarded on a ‘first in best dressed’ system therefore electronic applications are encouraged.

Purpose
The grants are to support farmers located in the East Gippsland Shire, whose properties were affected in the recent fires, to replace damaged or destroyed fencing.  Funds may also be available for farmers in urgent need of fodder for the coming season.
