VFF announces 2024 VFF election results


The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) has today announced the outcome of its elections for VFF President and Vice-President, as well as a number of VFF commodity group roles.

VFF Returning Officer Brendan Tatham congratulated all successful office bearers as the future leaders of Victoria’s peak agricultural advocacy body. 

“VFF members have elected  Brett Hosking as President and Peter Star as Vice-President.” 

“I congratulate both Brett and Peter and look forward to working with them and the wider VFF team to help deliver for farmers and regional Victorians in the coming years.” 

“The VFF would like to acknowledge and thank all candidates for their interest in positions and encourage them to continue to contribute to the VFF and the farming community into the future.” 

“The VFF also thanks all outgoing office bearers for their contributions over the years and helping to facilitate succession in the VFF to the next generation of VFF leaders,” Mr Tatham said. 

In addition to the above positions, the VFF is announcing the below uncontested positions and congratulates the successful incumbent office bearers: 

VFF United Dairyfarmers of Victoria President:

VFF Livestock President:

VFF Livestock Vice President:

VFF Livestock Commodity Council: 

  • Wimmera: Graeme Mahar 
  • East Gippsland: Trent Anderson 
  • Additional Councillor: Bradley Venning 

The 2024 VFF election vote counting process was conducted on the morning of Friday 20 December 2024 at Farrer House in Melbourne under supervised conditions. 

About the VFF President and Vice-President: 

PRESIDENT: 

Brett Hosking: 

Brett is an experienced and respected agricultural advocate and has previously served as Vice-President of the VFF (2016-2018) and President of the VFF Grains Group. 

He is a fifth-generation mixed farmer from Quambatook in Victoria’s Mallee region where he grows wheat, barley, canola, lentils, field peas as well as running sheep and cattle. 

He is also a respective Director of the Birchip Cropping Group and Farmers for Climate Action and Chair of the Grains Market Access Committee for Grains Australia and a former Grain Growers Chair. 

Brett believes the VFF’s greatest opportunities come through strong members, branches and commodity groups aligned together under stable and inclusive leadership where informed and enthusiastic voices combine to create greater outcomes for all farmers. 

VICE-PRESIDENT: 

Peter Star: 

Peter has been VFF Livestock Vice-President since 2022. He is a livestock farmer from Tallangatta in Victoria’s North-East. 

Amongst a host of previous experience, he is the current VFF representative to the National Wild Dog Action Plan Stakeholder Consultative Group. He has also held positions of the VFF Land Management Committee, served as the Livestock Council Representative to the VFF Board and is a current member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Peter is passionate about supporting the next generation of farmers, while engaging with our established farming families on issues like succession planning and generational transfer.
