FAQs

Where does the chicken in Victorian Supermarkets come from?

The vast majority of raw chicken and store roasted chicken comes from Victoria itself. The vast majority of chicken meat farms are centred around Melbourne, Geelong and Bendigo.

The small percentage of chicken which is not from Victoria is from interstate. It is currently illegal to import raw/fresh chicken into Australia, although it is possible to import cooked chicken, such as those in tins.

If you want to ensure that you are buying Australian chicken you can check the country of origin label. Otherwise if you are buying any raw chicken product you can be assured that it is wholly Australia, and mostly likely, local Victorian produce.

Additionally all restaurants and cafés which use raw chicken as an ingredient are using Australian chicken.
